Molybdenum is a kind of rare metal, also,it is one of the important strategic non-renewable resources and the basic material of development of high and new technology, national modernization and the construction of modern defense. With the continuous development of science and technology, molybdenum is widely used in steel industry, non-ferrous metal industry, nuclear industry, aerospace industry, chemical industry, electronic industry and other fields because of its unique performance. At the same time, various emerging applications of molybdenum were constantly found which made this magical molybdenum metal more colorful.

Application of molybdenum in the oil and chemical industry
Molybdenum has excellent corrosion resistance of acid and other metals, which can be used in the production of vacuum tube, heat exchanger, boiler, oil tank, the lining of various acid alkali liquor containers, storage tanks and other chemical equipment materials.
MoO3, MoS2 and the compounds of organic molybdenum are very important catalysts and catalytic activator in the oil and chemical industry, which commonly used in oxidation reduction reaction, organic synthesis, oil hydrofining, ammonia, organic pyrolysis, etc., especially, the molybdenum catalyst has an important position in the oil processing industry. Molybdenum is a kind of ideal electron donor and carrier and plays an important role in the oil cracking and restructuring.
Molybdenum compounds like alpha MoO3, eight ammonium molybdate and calcium molybdate can not only be the flame retardant but also smoke suppression. Some of molybdenum compounds also have a wide range of uses in the pigment industry. Lead molybdate, zinc molybdate, and calcium molybdate are often used in the production of paint, dye and ink. Molybdenum compounds is a kind of chemical reagents with wide application, although the dosage of which is limited but the kinds of which are various, such as molybdenum oxide, ammonium molybdate, secondary ammonium molybdate, phosphor molybdate and sodium molybdate, etc.
Lubrication applications

Molybdenum disulfide is one of the most common natural forms of the molybdenum, and it can be used as lubricant directly after being extracted from ore and purified. Molybdenum disulfide is known as "the king of lubrication” with the layered structure and excellent lubrication performance, it can still keep a good lubrication performance at conditions of high temperature and pressure, high rotating, ultra-low temperature and high vacuum. Some organic molybdenum compounds has more superior performance than molybdenum disulfide as lubricating anti-wear additives and engine fuel additive, which has been widely used.
