Molybdenum is a kind of rare metal, also,it is one of the important strategic non-renewable resources and the basic material of development of high and new technology, national modernization and the construction of modern defense. With the continuous development of science and technology, molybdenum is widely used in steel industry, non-ferrous metal industry, nuclear industry, aerospace industry, chemical industry, electronic industry and other fields because of its unique performance. At the same time, various emerging applications of molybdenum was constantly found which made this magical molybdenum metal more colorful.

The application of molybdenum in steel industry

Molybdenum is known as "industrial monosodium glutamate", although the proportion of the total steel is small, all of the progress of every modern industry is almost closely related to molybdenum. Structural steel, stainless steel, tool steel, high-speed steel, cast iron and other steel products is the main application field of molybdenum. From the information provided by the international association of molybdenum, molybdenum consumption in iron and steel industry accounted for 80% of total consumption of molybdenum.

As additive, molybdenum provides the steel with microcrystalline structure of uniform to improve the performance of the steel. The adding way of molybdenum is varied, it can be molybdenum iron, molybdenum oxide, high-purity molybdenum trioxide, molybdenum powder, nano molybdenum powder, etc. Molybdenum added in steel can make steel has a uniform microcrystalline structure, then reduce the eutectoid decomposition temperature, expanding the scope of the heat treatment temperature and hardening depth, but also can improve the hardness and toughness of steel. Molybdenum added in iron can make the iron grain refinement; it also can improve the high temperature performance, wear resistance and acid-proof performance.
